After a rewarding hike, you deserve a good night's sleep! And it goes without saying that good camping pillows are a must. These lightweight, inflatable camping pillows are high quality, & come in a variety of great colours.
How to Choose the Best Camping Pillows?
Taking a camping pillow with you on your next hiking trip or weekend getaway can really mean the difference between a good night’s sleep and tossing all evening. While it might not be necessary to take a camping pillow, we certainly feel that sleep quality is a critical factor in recovering, staying healthy, and staying happy when camping.
Types of Camping Pillow
- Self-inflating camping pillows: More convenient, but the foam used to help the pillow expand adds extra weight. On top of that, when compressed the pillow naturally weighs more and takes up more space than a pillow without internal foam.
- Inflatable camping pillows: A good option for backpackers because they pack down small and don't weigh as much. The downside to inflatable pillows is that they provide little insulation from the ground, and they can make a crunching sound when you move on them (to go along with your inflatable sleeping pad).
- Stuffable pillow cases: This type of camping pillow tend to be cheaper and have no chances of springing a leak. However the pillow’s comfort and support are reliant upon the clothes you stuff into it.
When it comes to choosing the best camping pillows, there has always been a trade-off between weight and comfort. Softer, fluffier foam pillows feel great when you go to bed, but the added weight can drag you down.
Inflatable pillows tend to feel firmer and are generally noisier than foam but can weigh half as much as foam pillows. When you’re looking for a lightweight backpacking pillow, look for one that weighs well under a pound.
Look for inflatable pillows that are made up of a durable material, like thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), or one that comes with a more rugged cover. Valves can also be a weak point on an inflatable pillow. Make sure the one you buy has a tough, well-built valve that isn’t prone to leaking like our camping pillow collection Lightweight Aeros Travel Pillow.
With a little care, you can prolong the life of your camping pillow. Always store it in your stuff sack to add a protective layer, and don’t carry it on the outside of your pack. We suggest you to flatten our pillows out and roll them up in our sleeping bags. This serves not only to add an extra layer of protection but also to keep our sleeping gear together so we don’t have to search for the pillow when setting up camp.
Rest your tired heads on these inflated ultralight pillows, & have a great snooze for the night. In the morning, deflate these outdoor pillows, pack them in neat little bags & off you go for your hike. Sweet dreams! Pair these blow up hiking pillows with high quality camping sleeping bags or sleeping mats.
